Stop and Think

Do you ever stop to think...

Do I really need to buy this?
Do I really need to read this crap?
Do I really care about the local gossip?

Do you catch yourself caring way too much about these things?

I keep doing these things. I keep trying to take a step back and look at the big picture. I don't need to constantly dream of bigger and better things, or dig for information about who's have a scandal at the moment.

LIFE IS NOT ABOUT THIS STUFF.

To me, life is about love, friendship, family, togetherness, safety, hope, joy, and faith.
I don't need a huge house, all kinds of beautiful (material) things. I don't need to always have a full schedule or think "What do those people think of me?" I don't want to care if she's dating him even though he loves her - it's all crap.
Life goes on and no one remembers those little things!

I have a hard time not making things a competition. But after all that pettiness is over, it all boils down to this...

I am confident my marriage will work.
I pick great friends.
I will always choose family above all.
I do not need to buy expensive things to look good and feel good.
I do not need to change my appearance because someone else thinks I should.
I am proud of what I have become and what I stand for.
I have a roof over my head and a full belly.
I have friends and family who love me no matter what.
I have the most amazing dog.
I am beautiful.
I am happy.

Do you think the men and women fighting for our freedom like most Americans? Probably not. But they are selfless enough to devote their lives to us. And that something we should all keep in mind and look up to. I look up to my husband, brother-in-law, friends, and veterans. They're not worried about what their outfit looks like; they're worried if they'll be able to eat or sleep tonight, or if the enemy will kill their brother beside them. Life is precious, and frankly, we all take it for granted too often.

Next time you see someone in the uniform, thank them. And don't forget to thank the person standing next to them for all their sacrifice as well.

Day 30 - 30 Day Project

Day 30 - A picture of someone I miss

I miss CJ! She was my best friend since day one of middle school :) This is an old picture of us, and we haven't grown apart over the years....but I miss her and I still think of her as one of my greatest friends. She just turned 21...so I'm excited to go home one day and drink a beer with my girl!

Day 29 - A picture that can always make me smile

This was the 375th Marine Corps Ball in Las Vegas. That night was so fun; it always makes me smile looking back at the photos.

Day 28 - 30 Day Project

Day 28 - A picture of something I'm afraid of

As a Marine Wife, this is my biggest fear. I hope I NEVER have to see this in person, whether it's my husband, brother-in-law, or a friend. It's any wife's fear that she will lose her husband, but it's even greater when you have to send your husband off to war. I don't concentrate on the negative, but I would be lying if I said it's never crossed my mind.

Day 26 - 30 Day Project

Day 26 - A picture of something that means a lot to me

Pictures mean a lot to me, as well as the boys in these pictures. But without pictures I wouldn't really remember how my puppy has changed and how great our memories have been in the past few years!

Day 25 - 30 Day Project

Day 25 - A picture of my day

Actually I have a good amount of pictures from my day, I brought my camera along just for your enjoyment!

It started out with a 2 mile bike ride with the dog and a yummy bowl of homemade oatmeal. I boil some oats in water, put it in a bowl with milk, cinnamon, wild flower honey, and a banana. YUMMM!

Afterwards I found Benny's head inside the trash can LICKIN' AWAY! Mmmm yesterdays leftover peanut butter!

My friend Allyse and I spent our Thursday morning in Oceanside. We decided to check out a farmers market.

After the market we decided to walk down to the pier. Of course we took pictures along the way!

I put the sun behind the lamp....looks like it's lit up :)

It was such a beautiful day! I feel bad that most of the country is covered in snow...but we enjoyed our breezy 70 degree day out by the water!

We sat down at the end of the pier and enjoyed some snacks from the market.

Mmmm....glazed pecans.

I LOVED this Chipotle Bitchin' Sauce!!!! I brought some home with me :)

On the way home I got a call saying that a very important man in my husband's life passed away. He was a TRUE hero.

I got a bunch of stuff done around the house: cleaning, sewing, cooking, laundry....holy cow I really sound like a housewife! I now need some sleep. It was a roller coaster of a day.
Happy February 10th, 2011 everyone :)

Day 24 - 30 Day Project

Day 24 - A picture of something I wish I could change

If I could I would bring all of our troops home. They are honorable, heroic, and amazingly selfless. Thank you, to all of them, for their service.

Day 23 - 30 Day Project

Day 23- A picture of my favorite book

My favorite book is "Oh What a Mess" by Hans Wilhelm. I read this growing up and it helped inspire me to continue to do art and to be proud of what I do. You can click on the title to see the book.

Day 22 - 30 Day Project

Day 22 - A picture of something I wish I was better at

I used to play lacrosse in high school. I wish I was better at it! I played Center for two years, became MVP, and had the time of my life! I was in good shape and I helped build a team in my home town. Times were tough since lacrosse was so new to Florida....but we did good and had a blast. I miss it so much. Some day I hope to be able to find an adult league and play again.

Day 21 - 30 Day Project

Day 21 - A picture of something I wish I could forget

I wish I could forget this place. Although it is where I met Jake for the first time, and many friends, I disliked this place very much. I was picked on and bullied so much. I was miserable in middle school. I don't even like to see this picture or think about how cruel people were to me then. Luckily, I came into my own, and am now a very strong confident person!

Day 20 - 30 Day Project

Day 20 - A picture of somewhere you'd love to travel

This is me in 2006, cliff-jumping in the mountains of Lake Tahoe. This is my favorite place in the world. I would love to go back every single year to visit. I am dying to take my husband there someday! There is SO much to do there; it would be a blast!

Day 19 - 30 Day Project

Day 19 - A picture and a letter

Dear blog reader,

I follow PostSecret. I have all the books and I read the secrets that are posted every Sunday. This post card is my all time favorite. This is for all you people who judge instantly, give dirty looks, and treat people like crap. You never know what kind of day someone is having. You never know how your actions will effect them. Be kind! A smile goes a long way :)

Love, Becky

Day 18 - 30 Day Project

Day 18 - A picture of my biggest insecurity

This is a goofy picture. This was taken back when we lived in DC. I am very insecure about my face when I have acne. This picture doesn't do justice to my break outs lately, but that's not a time I take pictures of myself, so this is the best I found off-hand. Stress (especially from the Marine Corps) makes me break out. I think its something that I'll have to deal with for the rest of my life; it's hereditary. BUMMER! Oh well :)

Day 17 - 30 Day Project

Day 17 - A picture of something that has made a huge impact on my life recently

I recently subscribed to the magazine. I LOVE IT!
I find myself so inspired after reading each of these. I get new ideas for things like workouts, recipes, and all kinds of things to better myself. I highly recommend buying one to see if you like it.

Day 16 - 30 Day Project

Day 16 - A picture of someone who inspires me

This is my Grandma. I bought her these glasses, just for fun! She loved them :) My Grandma is a huge inspiration to me. She was the epitome of love and generosity. I miss her and love her so much. She's one of my angels now, looking over me and our huge family, keeping us safe.
